I can remember as if it were yesterday. The Corn Is Green is one of those simple movies that has a most profound story; it is the tale of a young Welsh miner who is discovered to have extraordinary intelligence and is taken in to learn at Miss Moffat’s school. She prepares him with dedication and tenacity using every conceivable lesson, book and exercise she can find for him to prepare for his eventual test to be accepted into Oxford. This film deserves to be seen, not only for Bette Davis’ great work, but for the pleasure of a story that needs to be heard. Life can bring us surprises we can never dream of; there is always something new awaiting us if we only give it time and effort.
